Works in Progress - upcycling again

The start of our Caravan quilt - made from old Pj's

The start and end of the hexagons

20 Flags ready for Sunday School to decorate
Summer is so busy and this year with it being so hot we have been away a lot!! This means that slowly the garden gets on top of me, and the housework etc so less craft is done.

BUT this year I have been taking hand patchwork on my weekends and holidays away - yes the hexagon. I have been asking myself why?? I love doing embroidery and here I am patchworking by hand. Hmmm I think I was carried away with the hexagon fever without thinking about it. So I have decided to turn it into a cushion top so that it can get finished and not just languish as yet another project on the go.

I have been working on a quilt for Aaron and Me in the caravan for ages. Still not completed, but last night I started putting some of the hourglass blocks together to inspire myself to get it finished.

Sunday school has been doing some awesome stuff lately. Sarah (who makes the program) thought that flags would be great for the kids to make so they can have some of their own to wave during worship. So last night I made 20 calico and cotton flags. Ready to put a stake in and decorate. I can't wait to see what the kids will put on them.

So with Aaron being away a lot for work at the moment, quite a lot of paperwork happening in my job, I am pleased to have gotten a little crafting in.

Gap Filler Project

Awesome gap filler where our Church used to be

Well our church is now a Gap Filler Project.  For those of you that don't know - project gapfiller is a non profit organisation trying to pretty up some of the blank spaces left behind after the building sites have been cleared of Earthquake debris. Our church was one of the many buildings that were badly broken in the September 2010 earthquake. It was pulled down a while ago and lately it has been brightened. First the paintings went up and then yesterday a pile of people where there putting in and spray painting the tiles. It looks fantastic. So much better than walking past stones to get to the church hall where we now meet.

Aaron and I took Sunday school and considered using the gap filler site but in the end we went to the park as there were tables there. It was an amazing end of winter day at 21oC. Spring is only 6 days away (officially). Aaron took the lesson in the band rotunda and then I took the activity using the two tables. It was a great morning.

What happens at Sunday School on a sunny day

getting up was easy but sitting on top was a bit precarious for some

some had problems getting down, so Aaron's arms at the ready
After all the snow and cold yesterday was warm and fantastic. So Aaron and I decided to hold Sunday School outside. A bit of running around games first, then a study and then onto making crowns as the activity. Afterwards there was a lot of climbing happening, both on the pagoda and up trees.

A gorgeous break in Rarotonga

Woo hoo, A holiday with no kids for 11 days. Bliss, relaxing and warm! BTW it was an early 20th wedding anniversary present to ourselves....
